Domitian

Domitian
Emperor from 81 to 96 CE (when he was assassinated). Under him the Romans made substantial military advances in Britain. He pressed his claim to divine honours in order to cement the unity under him of the empire, and therefore Christians' refusal to participate was regarded as sedition and rendered them liable to prosecution. This was possibly the occasion of the persecution referred to in Rev. 1:9.
